What does my Heart Age reveal about my cardiovascular health?

Unlocked with 1-Month Free Trial to Withings+

Heart Age is an easy-to-understand indicator of your heart's mechanical efficiency, based on how quickly your heart reacts to each beat and how effectively it pumps blood. It's displayed relative to your actual age (e.g., "3 years younger"), so you can see at a glance how your cardiovascular health compares.

It is calculated from two timing markers: Responsiveness (how quickly your heart reacts to each beat) and Efficiency (how long it spends pumping blood). These are measured through Impedance Cardiography (ICG) on BodyScan 2, which captures the electrical and mechanical signals of each heartbeat.

Your Heart Age is color-coded based on your result:

🟢 Younger than expected: Your heart's timing and pump efficiency are performing better than average for your age.

🔵 In line with your age: Your heart's mechanical function is right where it's expected. Keep tracking to spot trends early.

🟠 Older than expected: Your heart's timing markers suggest reduced mechanical efficiency. This is a signal to discuss with your doctor and monitor over time — not a diagnosis.

Tips for accurate measurements

Measure at the same time of day, in the same conditions. Avoid measuring right after exercise or caffeine. Wear a light undergarment, dry your hands and feet, and remove all rings before stepping on the device. Stay completely still during the measurement, no bending knees or elbows.

Heart Age is a long-term monitoring indicator, not a medical diagnosis. Based on established systolic time interval methods (Weissier et al., Circulation 1972) and ESC guidance on left-ventricular systolic function assessment.

How does Blood Pressure Insights Notifications work?

Blood Pressure Insights Notifications² look at the data your Withings device collects and highlight notable patterns in your blood pressure trends. When the feature identifies a pattern worth your attention, you'll receive a notification in the Withings app to help you stay aware of how your blood pressure is trending over time.

Your Withings device collects data each time you use it, and an algorithm reviews that data for these patterns. For the feature to have enough data to work with, use your device at least twice per week.

What the feature can and can't tell you

This feature highlights only certain patterns, so it won't capture every change in your blood pressure trends, and you may not always receive a notification. A notification simply points to a trend worth noticing — it is not an assessment of your health and does not tell you whether you have any medical condition.

Taking regular measurements with a blood pressure cuff remains the best way to keep an accurate picture of your blood pressure, and a healthcare professional is the right source for any questions about your health.

Who the feature is for

Blood Pressure Insights Notifications are designed for general wellness and are intended for people who:

- are 22 years of age or older,

- are not pregnant, and

- do not have an implanted electronic device, such as a cardiac pacemaker.

If any of these do not apply to you, the feature is not recommended. If a healthcare provider has told you to monitor your heart or blood pressure in a specific way, follow their guidance.

Important limitations

This feature is a general wellness tool. It does not assess, diagnose, or treat any medical condition, and it cannot identify heart attacks or other medical emergencies. If you ever experience chest pain, pressure, or tightness, or think you may be having a heart attack, call emergency services immediately.

Always consult a healthcare professional for medical advice and before making decisions about your health.

How can a scale measure my blood oxygen levels?

SpO2 is measured using pulse oximetry—a non-invasive method that requires no instrument to enter the body. BodyScan 2 uses a multi-wave PPG (Photoplethysmography) sensor built into the handle, which emits red and infrared light waves through the blood vessels in your thumb. Oxygen-rich blood absorbs infrared light more efficiently, while oxygen-poor blood absorbs more red light, which is why venous blood appears darker than arterial blood.

The algorithm compares the reflection of each wavelength to calculate your SpO2 level.

Impedance Cardiography

Tracks how much blood the heart pumps per beat by reading changes in thoracic electrical impedance in real time.

Photoplethysmogram (PPG)

Photoplethysmogram (PPG)

Uses light to detect blood flow and oxygen saturation, tracking pulse rate and peripheral circulation with each measurement.

“The strongest predictors of long-term health decline appear years before symptoms. Measuring cardiac function, arterial stiffness, cellular vitality, and metabolic activity in a longitudinal and integrated way gives us a level of early detection that was previously impossible outside clinical research. It has the potential to change prevention for millions of people.”

FAQ

What is BodyScan 2?

BodyScan 2 is Withings' most ambitious product to date: a full Longevity Station that transforms your daily weigh-in into a window on your long-term health. Winner of the CES 2026 Innovation Award, it tracks over 60 biomarkers and helps you understand whether you're gaining or losing healthy years.

What does BodyScan 2 measure?

Over 60 biomarkers, biosignals, and personalized health insights, including:

Body composition — segmental fat and muscle mass across 6 body zones (arms, legs, torso, abdomen)

Cardiovascular health — Heart Age, Vascular Age, Hypertension Notifications, Pulse Wave Velocity

Heart rhythm — 6-lead ECG, AFib detection

Nerve health — Nerve Response Score across hands and feet

Metabolic health — Visceral Fat Index, Metabolic Age, Glucose Resilience, BMR

Other — SpO2, hydration, body fluids balance, AI-powered coaching and insights

Is there a warranty?

Yes. BodyScan 2 comes with a standard 2-year warranty.

How is BodyScan 2 different from the original Body Scan?

BodyScan 2 builds on its predecessor with expanded segmental measurements, new cardiovascular indicators, and an improved Bioimpedance Spectroscopy circuit. It also introduces an in-handle display, an SpO2 sensor—all delivering deeper, more actionable health insights from your bathroom floor.

¹Internal comparative study between Withings Body Scan measurements and DEXA scan results. 99% correlation observed on fat mass results. Individual results may vary. BodyScan 2 is not a medical device for diagnostic purposes.

²²This feature provides a wellness insight. It is not a diagnosis and does not measure your blood pressure. If you receive a notification, confirm your readings with a clinically validated blood pressure monitor and consult a healthcare professional. Regularly monitoring at home and sharing your trends with your doctor is the best way to support your long-term health.

³AFib detection is available via Withings ECG Monitor 2

Withings ECG Monitor 2 is a software medical device that analyses and filters ECG signals from compatible devices to detect atrial fibrillation (AFib) and classify heart rate.

Intended for healthcare professionals and/or lay users, it provides information to support rhythm classification and help distinguish AFib from sinus rhythm. Results are for informational purposes only and should not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Not recommended for users with other known arrhythmias. For adults only.
